My Story
I was born and raised in Lithuania. From the early childhood I was a musical kid and next to the Gymnasium I have attended the music school. Not only I have had my musical education there developed, learnt how to play cello and piano, started playing in orchestra and ensemble but I also found some friends, like-minded people who I was happy with.
Being born in a non-musician family it seemed natural to study in university something that would ensure my living. I was always quite good in maths, so without much doubt I went for a study program in Vilnius University called “Financial and actuarial mathematics“. While studying in the university I have never left cello behind – I was an active member of Vilnius University Chamber Orchestra, we have travelled around the world (Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, The Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy, Malta, China, etc.) and made music with university students under the guidance of Paulius Bernardas Koncė.
In 2016 I have graduated and received my Bachelor’s degree but after doing the internship I felt that I should give one more try for music. I have dedicated one year to only practicing – every morning starting with scales, exercises, then carrying on to etudes and the audition program pieces for the possible audition in the Conservatoire. Practicing every day between 6-10 hours was very demanding but in the end truly rewarding. I must mention a few teachers that helped me on this way. My teacher Ernestas Ramelis shaped the fundament of my cello playing while I was in the music school and I am eternally grateful for that. At the beginning of my practice year Robertas Grod was my teacher and guide. Later on I had help from a legendary Romanas Armonas – basically a “father” to all the contemporary cello players in Lithuania (and abroad!) who continue and develop the cello tradition of classical music. With the help of all these people I had a successful audition in The Royal Conservatoire of The Hague and started my Bachelor’s under the guidance of Larissa Groeneveld. During these studies I also met Špela Pušnik, a great pianist who I often share the stage with and who is my life partner. After a lovely recital at the end of the 4th year, I have continued with the Master programme, now with Lucia Swarts helping me on the way. In the year 2023 I have graduated and acquired Master’s in Classical Cello Performance.
Already in the 2nd year of my bachelor cello studies I started my own teaching practice. I never knew how fulfilling teaching can be until I started doing it myself. I consider it a big part of my life and I see how it goes hand-in-hand with my artistic career.
